We spent our last few day in Tokyo in Shinjuku. We learned to appreciate Shinjuku for what it was:a business and retail conglomerate with many hidden gems. One of those gems was Omoide Yokocho, an alley that consists of many small eateries—by small I mean places that can only host 4 to 10 people. We ate at a yakitori restaurant there, and the meal was great. The ambiance of the area was cozy, largely due to the bite-sized restaurants.

Another staple of Shinjuku was Golden Gai, a series of micro bars all nestled in a couple of alleyways. These bars were really personal because they also only seated maybe 10 people max, and it was almost like having your own bar since the bartender would make sure you were well attended. I recall a lot of great nights in Shinjuku, and the energy and the many late nights we experienced there really made the place special.
